Art has a way of telling the story of a community. From galleries and exhibitions to classrooms, workshops, and public spaces, Marion County’s arts scene continues to grow through the dedication of organizations that support both artists and audiences alike. The following pages celebrate that creativity through the work of local artists and the organizations helping to ensure the arts remain an important part of life in our community.

For 25 years, the Marion Cultural Alliance has helped shape the creative identity of Ocala and Marion County. As the county’s official local arts agency, the nonprofit has championed artists, connected cultural organizations, and created opportunities for the arts to flourish throughout the community. From launching the iconic Horse Fever public art project in 2001 to supporting local artists through grants, exhibitions, and partnerships, MCA has become a driving force behind the region’s cultural growth.
That commitment continues today at the Brick City Center for the Arts, where rotating exhibitions showcase the talent of regional artists and invite the community to experience creativity year-round.
“The arts tell the story of who we are as a community,” says MCA Executive Director Jaye Baillie. “For 25 years, Marion Cultural Alliance has served as the catalyst connecting artists, businesses, nonprofits, and local government to create a thriving cultural landscape that enriches lives and strengthens our economy. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we’re not just reflecting on our past—we’re looking ahead to the next generation of creativity, collaboration, and community impact.”
Ocala Art Group
For more than 75 years, the Ocala Art Group has provided a place where artists can learn, create, and grow together. Founded in 1950, the nonprofit organization is one of Florida’s oldest continuously operating art groups and remains a vibrant part of Marion County’s creative community.
With nearly 100 members and growing, the Ocala Art Group welcomes artists of all experience levels, along with art enthusiasts who share a passion for the visual arts. The organization’s mission extends beyond showcasing artwork. It fosters artistic development through education, mentorship, and a spirit of collaboration that encourages members to continually refine their skills while supporting one another.
Throughout the year, members participate in demonstrations, workshops, presentations, and excursions exploring a variety of artistic techniques and mediums. An Artist Book Club combines literature and visual art by inviting members to create original works inspired by art-centered books, while four annual exhibitions provide opportunities to share their creativity with the community.

Beyond its own membership, the Ocala Art Group actively promotes local artists by displaying members’ work at businesses throughout Ocala, creating opportunities for both public appreciation and art sales. The organization also believes in giving back. Through community partnerships, including donations benefiting the Ocala Blue Star Mothers, members use their artistic talents to support causes that strengthen the community.
“Our members are a talented group of artists who strive to lift up and encourage fellow members to showcase their art,” says Exhibition Coordinator Monica Coburn. “Even the most talented benefit from membership. We continue our art education by taking classes or by teaching classes. We seek to grow our membership by inspiring both established and emerging artists in their exploration of the visual arts.”
As the Ocala Art Group continues to grow, it remains committed to preserving its rich history while inspiring the next generation of artists through education, fellowship, exhibitions, and community engagement.
