Name: Darrin DeTorres
Age:32
Title/Company or main life pursuit:
Ocala Distance Project / Notice Me Marketing and Media. I want to create a sustainable business that allows me to pursue my passion of coaching.
What is your word and why did you choose it?
Endure. Life is a lot like running – it is not always easy, but when we endure, we are bound to see and do great things.
What aspirations do you have for yourself in the next 40 years?
I am hoping to continue to grow my marketing business and my running group. I hope to someday also coach adults.
Favorite way to give back to the community?
I am pretty active in event planning for nonprofits. I currently help organize multiple 5K runs in the area. When doing the math, I have helped the organizations I work with raise over $350,000 for their causes.
What do you love and/or hate about the Ocala area?
I absolutely hate the heat and humidity. I grew up in Salt Lake City and I miss the seasons. I do love the people in Ocala. I have established some great relationships.
You never leave home without: Unfortunately, my cell phone. I get really anxious when it dies……..
If you could tell your 16-year-old self one thing:
Don’t take things so seriously. I spent way too much time worrying about what others thought, and I learned it was all for naught.
Anything else you’re super passionate about that you’d like to tout:
I really think it is important to sweat at least 30 minutes a day. A lot of our health and mental problems can be cured with just a little exercise. I find sometimes I get “too busy” to work out and things go downhill. I get easily distracted and irritable when I don’t get out and sweat.
