Marion County Parks and Recreation and the City of Ocala Recreation and Parks are joining together to again promote July as Parks and Recreation Month. Children ages 5-8 and 9-12 are invited to submit a poster no larger than 11” X 17” by June 15, 2012 reflecting a short caption relating to the “It Starts in Parks” theme. Art work can be reflective of:
My success in a parks and recreation program.
My community and how parks and recreation helps me understand it.
How parks and recreation saves our green spaces and open play areas.
How parks and recreation can help improve our life styles.
How parks and recreation imparts good health, wellness and physical fitness.
How parks and recreation promotes our history and heritage
How parks and recreation teaches me to respect what the outdoors provide.
Florida’s Future—how am I providing “FUN” for future generations.
Two winners (one in each age category) will be selected by a panel of judges comprised by the Marion County Parks and Recreation Advisory Council, Ocala Recreation Commission and the Ocala Municipal Arts Commission. The winners will be recognized by the Marion County Board of County Commissioners and the Ocala City Council at their July 3 meetings.
Posters will be displayed at Ocala City Hall and the winners will receive up to $50 in “Rec Bucks” from both Marion County Parks and Recreation and City of Ocala Recreation and Parks. These “bucks” can be used on a variety of recreation programs offered through the end of September.
