You fall into the trap every year: You pile your plate high with turkey, ham, and other Thanksgiving treats, leaving you sluggish and lethargic. But this year, instead of taking a spot on the couch, you can counter the effects of holiday weight gain just by adding activity into your day.
Try these tips this Thanksgiving weekend to keep your metabolism moving and keep the weight off:
1. Get active. Do something with your family, whether it is going for a walk, playing football, or riding bikes around the neighborhood. Not only will you create a new holiday tradition, but you'll be able to engage in a healthy activity together.
2. Go shopping. With all of the deals Black Friday has to offer, it's almost hard not to shop the day after Thanksgiving. The bonus to spending your cash? You're walking, lifting, bending and carrying - all functional motions that will burn calories.
3. Try the Y. The mall isn't the only place you can find great deals on Black Friday. This year, the Y is offering a weekend guest pass and only a $1 joiner's fee this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Plus, the first 25 people to join each day will receive a $25 gift card for any Y program.
Whatever activity you choose to do, make sure that it is something you enjoy!
