ACUPUNCTURE

Voodoo, witchcraft, hocus-pocus…otherwise known as acupuncture! Don’t let the name scare you. Acupuncture is a nearly painless medical therapy involving the shallow insertion of thin, stainless steel needles in the skin to stimulate the body’s energy into a state of homeostasis, or balance. These needles are placed in specific areas of the body for therapeutic purposes.

Acupuncture is a time-tested treatment modality that has been around for approximately 5,000 years. Widely accepted in many countries around the world, acupuncture is now gaining widespread popularity & recognition here in the United States. Hospitals, hotels, spas, gyms, & even cruise ships are now embracing this ancient form of healing.

With close to 400 acupuncture points covering the body, it’s no wonder that acupuncture can treat such a wide range of health concerns. Everything from the common cold to PMS can be effectively treated. It makes no difference if the health concern was incurred yesterday or even thirty years ago. Acupuncture still proves to be highly effective for all ages & most health conditions.

Despite the many misconceptions that circulate acupuncture, the therapy is a very relaxing experience. To most people’s surprise, most patients fall asleep during the treatment. This is not due to the efforts of the physician, but simply the relaxing nature of the treatment.

Rest assured, all acupuncture needles are sterile, disposable, & for the purpose of one time use. Acupuncturists use filiform needles, which are solid stainless steel. Nothing can be injected into your body from these needles.

Assuming you choose a qualified licensed acupuncture physician, acupuncture is quite safe. When choosing an acupuncture physician (AP) or doctor of Oriental medicine (DOM), take into consideration how many years of acupuncture school the physician has completed & if the graduate school they attended is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), which is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture & Oriental medicine practitioners.
