Eastern medicine. Oriental medicine. Chinese medicine.
These are all branch terms that encompass a number of different alternative medical therapies. These therapies enhance your body’s natural ability to heal itself so that you can live a longer, better quality of life.
These therapies include acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional counseling, tui na (Eastern medical massage), auriculotherapy and ear seeds, electric stimulation, cupping, moxibustion, gua sha, and laser acupuncture (cold laser therapy). While some of these therapies may sound more foreign than others, they are all therapeutic avenues to achieving optimal health with little to no side effects. I will discuss each of these therapies in further detail in future articles.
What is the ‘POINT’ of all this? Eastern medicine treats the source of your problem, not just the symptoms. By doing so, it is much more likely that your nagging symptoms won’t come back.
Now being in existence for approximately 5,000 years, Eastern Medicine has stood the test of time. It is no wonder that it is one of the primary forms of medical care in China as well as many other countries around the world. Additionally, Eastern medicine is quickly gaining popularity in the United States, with statistics showing that at least one third of all hospitals in the United States are now incorporating acupuncture into their treatments.
Eastern medical practitioners can treat a wide range of ailments. In the state of Florida, doctors of oriental medicine (D.O.M.) and acupuncture physicians (A.P.) are recognized as primary care physicians. This means that just about anything you walk in the door with can be treated. Yes, even bone spurs, depression, gout, asthma, diabetes, and arthritis to name a few.
What about those individuals who claim to have no health problems? While I wish the same upon everyone, a routine check up can help ensure that you remain in the best of health. Eastern medicine is a preventative form of healthcare which uses diagnostic tests (such as the tongue diagnosis and pulse diagnosis) to track future health concerns before they hit.
Eastern medicine is appropriate for all ages and most health conditions. Whether you developed the health condition today or even 30 years ago, Eastern medicine still proves to be highly effective.
So don’t be shy, give it a try!
