Holiday season is around the corner and we know how fast they come and go -- so let’s get ready for some new looks and tricks with our styling tools. Let’s begin with the flat iron, a tool that has almost been worn out by beating hair up on high heat and leaving it on for too long.

To get a smooth look it takes very little effort, but must be used in the right places. Start at the scalp where the hair is more resistant and requires more heat and time. The ends need less heat and time with a quick pass to smooth, not burn.

Apply products to your hair like Planet Cosmo Sculpting Texture control -- a fast drying hair cream that controls frizz leaving the hair pliable. This is just one of many products that work to help you keep flat-ironed hair in good condition.

TRICK:  Keep the flat iron at an angle to give hair a bend, or roll it to give it that beach wave. Try to use it vertically and horizontally to see the different looks that you can give your hair. 

TRICK: If you have hair that won't hold a curl from the flat iron, before you use the tool of choice (flat or curl iron) apply hair spray to give your hair shine and hold.  WARNING: Make sure you have a spray that will break up once it has been flat-ironed or curled with a curling iron.

TRICK: Use large sections to get a softer curl with a curling iron, allowing the ends to curl, but not as much on the scalp. This will give you a more glam look. To break curls up, use a small amount of pomade and rub it in your hands - this will avoid taking all the curl out.

TREAT: Wash your hair at every other day, if not every 3 days and brush brush brush that dirty-looking hair away, giving your hair a treat of your natural conditioner and keeping the scalp in good condition.

TRICK: Remember pony tails? Well, try them again with hot rollers on the ends for low volume texture. Pony tails should be below the ears if hair is long enough, and higher as your hair length is shorter.

TREAT: Sleep with conditioner in your hair, and rinse in the morning for a good conditioning treatment. Remember that winter means dry heat which causes flyaway’s, not frizz, so this is helpful.

TRICK: Set hair with rollers on dry hair for a softer, trendy look.
